Mysteries of the Word
I love written language. There is so much beauty in power in a well crafted phrase, so many layers of meaning in a carefully chosen word. I’ve been known to read dictionaries, and I collect thesauri. My most treasured is a 1920s edition of Roget’s Thesaurus.
Another important resource for interesting words is Brewer’s Phrase & Fable: “Giving the Derivation, Source, or Origin of Common Phrases, Allusions, and Words That Have a Tale to Tell”. I have several editions of this book, but you can also search its contents online:

Fables, Fairy Tales & Fantasy Art

Botanical.com ~ Maude Grieve’s A Modern Botanical – first published in 1931, this work continues to be an important resource and guide.
